According to Jason Schreier’s report on Bloomberg, Asmussen’s departure from EA comes after his instrumental role in revitalizing the Star Wars franchise in the gaming industry. His directorial work includes the critically and commercially acclaimed games Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order (2019) and the upcoming Star Wars Jedi: Survivor (2023). The specific reason for his departure hasn’t been disclosed.

“After careful thought and consideration, Stig Asmussen has decided to leave Respawn to pursue other adventures, and we wish him the best of luck,” stated an EA spokesperson in response to the news. “Veteran Respawn leaders will be stepping up to guide the team as they continue their work on Star Wars Jedi: Survivor.”

Released on April 28 of this year, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor made its debut on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. The sequel picks up five years after the events of Fallen Order and follows the journey of wandering Jedi Cal Kestis, reintroducing beloved characters like BD-1, Cere Junda, Merrin, and Greez Dritus.
