Review Armoured Core VI: Fires of Rubicon

Armoured Core VI: Fires of Rubicon: An Explosive Mecha Shooter

Armoured Core VI: Fires of Rubicon is the latest installment in the renowned Armoured Core franchise by Bandai Namco Entertainment and From Software. While Armoured Core is a third-person mecha shooter, From Software has become a genre of its own. The franchise, which has been around since its debut on the original Playstation, allows players to become pilots of customizable war machines known as Armoured Cores, obliterating their way through the plot.

A New Plot and Setting

In Armoured Core VI: Fires of Rubicon, players assume the role of C4-621 on the planet of Rubicon 3. Initially, you have a meager Armoured Core as you search for a viable license from a deceased mercenary. Once you obtain the license, you take on the call sign “Raven,” a callback to previous entries in the franchise. The early plot revolves around taking various jobs from factions on the planet to build a reputation and earn credits for upgrading your mech. These factions consist of resource-hungry corporations and colonists fighting for freedom.

Fast-Paced Action and Customization

Armoured Core VI deviates from the expected difficulty of From Software games, offering a more fast-paced, action-filled, explosive combat experience. Movement is crucial for survival, and players must utilize boosters to dodge and navigate the environment swiftly. The game allows players to equip up to four weapons at a time, ranging from various types such as basaltic, explosive, energy, and melee weapons. The customization options are abundant, enabling players to tailor their Armoured Core’s build to their preferred playstyle.

An Engaging Gameplay Experience

Building and optimizing your mech may initially appear overwhelming, but the game provides tutorials to guide players through the mechanics. Playing these tutorials not only helps improve your abilities but also rewards you with equipment, some of which proves valuable in the early game. Credits earned from completing objectives and missions can be used to purchase additional core parts to enhance your mech further.

Challenging Yet Rewarding

Armoured Core VI presents a satisfying challenge, encouraging players to continuously improve their builds and strategies. From Software has implemented checkpoints, allowing players to restart from specific points in the mission if their mech is destroyed. The ability to sell previously purchased parts back to the store at full price also provides flexibility for experimentation and adaptation. Understanding your mech’s capabilities and effectively staggering opponents through inflicting enough damage adds depth to the combat system.

Immersive Experience

Visually, Armoured Core VI creates an immersive industrial mech universe. The muted tones align well with the game’s atmosphere, and the absence of bugs or stability issues ensures a smooth experience. While the graphics may not be groundbreaking, the focus remains on the sensational gameplay rather than visual dazzle.
