Ubisoft quietly confirms it’s working on The Division 3

Ubisoft, known for its love of sequels, has quietly confirmed the development of The Division 3. The announcement was not accompanied by an extravagant trailer or a grand proclamation from Ubisoft’s CEO, but rather hidden within a press release about a separate matter.

In the press release, Ubisoft revealed that Julian Gerighty, the creative director of Star Wars Outlaws, will be the new executive producer of the Tom Clancy’s The Division franchise. Additionally, the press release casually mentioned that The Division 3 is currently in development at Massive Entertainment, the studio behind the series, and that the team is actively being built for the game.

Tom Clancy’s The Division 2, the most recent mainline series entry, launched in 2019. Hopefully, Ubisoft will call the sequel Tom Clancy’s Tom Clancy’s The Division 2 2.

Considering that both The Division and its sequel have sold over 10 million copies each, news of a third installment is not entirely unexpected. However, Ubisoft has encountered challenges with the release of its free-to-play spin-off, The Division: Heartland. Despite footage leaking in May 2021 and an initially anticipated release before the end of 2022, the game has yet to launch. Ubisoft has announced additional rounds of player testing during the summer.
