Don’t expect Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth DLC after the game releases

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Won’t Receive DLC, Confirms Creative Director

The creative director of the Final Fantasy 7 series, Tetsuya Nomura, has officially stated that Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth will not be receiving any downloadable content (DLC).

In a recent interview with Spanish publication Vandal (via GamesRadar), Nomura was asked about the possibility of DLC being released after the launch of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth next year. In response, Nomura made it clear that Square Enix has no plans for additional content for this installment.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake was initially released in 2020 and was followed by an enhanced version, Final Fantasy VII Remake: Intergrade, in 2021 for PC and PS5. The Intergrade edition featured DLC called Episode INTERmission, which expanded upon the story of Yuffie and Sonon alongside the main events of the remake.

Considering the popularity of Episode INTERmission and the fact that Yuffie will be a playable character in Rebirth, it’s surprising that Square Enix has chosen not to explore any DLC options for the upcoming game.

Speculation arose that Vincent Valentine, a beloved character from the original 1997 game, could potentially become playable through future DLC. However, Nomura’s latest comments seem to debunk this theory, indicating that Vincent will not be a playable character in Rebirth.

It is worth noting that Nomura’s statement does not entirely rule out the possibility of future DLC. Similar to how Episode INTERmission was revealed after the release of Remake, the creative team may be keeping any potential announcements under wraps for the time being. As fans eagerly anticipate the release of Rebirth, official confirmation regarding DLC remains pending.

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is scheduled to launch on February 29, 2024, exclusively for the PS5. The game will continue the story directly from where the previous installment left off, providing returning players with approximately 100 hours of adventure and a brand new open world to explore. Players will have the opportunity to control Cloud, Tifa, Aerith, Barret, Red XIII, Yuffie, and even Sephiroth in flashback sequences.
