Random: Switch Exclusive “Watermelon Game” Goes Viral, eShop Downloads Skyrocket

A Japanese Switch eShop Exclusive Gains Popularity Among Streamers and VTubers

A puzzle game known as Suika Game (Watermelon Game) has recently become a sensation in the gaming community. Initially popularized by Japanese influencers, it has now gained attention in the West as well.

This game, which has been compared to titles like 2048 and “Threes,” was released on Nintendo’s digital store in December 2021 for only 240 yen (less than $2/£2). The objective of the game is to place fruit in a container without overflowing it.

As players progress, the fruits can transform into larger ones, with watermelons being the largest fruit in the game. The goal is to achieve the highest possible score in each session. Although a free version is available to play online, it does not offer the same physics and scoring system as the Nintendo Switch release (courtesy of Polygon).

Watermelon Game has achieved remarkable success, currently dominating the Switch eShop charts in Japan and gaining popularity on streaming platforms like Twitch. With downloads increasing by more than 50,000 times per day, the developer ‘Aladdin X’ has found tremendous success with this title.

If you’re interested in trying Suika Game, you’ll need a Japanese Nintendo account and an eShop card for the Japanese region.
