Bethesda Quest Designer Joins Something Wicked Games
Will Shen, former lead quest designer for the highly anticipated game Starfield, has made a move to Something Wicked Games. Shen will now take on the role of lead content designer for Something Wicked Games’ first game, the open-world fantasy RPG Wyrdsong.
Shen, who has an impressive background at Bethesda working on games such as The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim, Fallout 4, and Fallout 76, was also the lead designer for Fallout 4’s eerie story-driven DLC, Far Harbor. His involvement in solving tantalizing mysteries and creating engaging gameplay experiences makes him a valuable addition to Something Wicked Games.
Something Wicked Games, although a newcomer, is a studio composed of industry veterans, including CEO Jeff Gardiner, who co-founded the studio in 2022. Gardiner also boasts an extensive experience with Bethesda, with credits on titles like The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion and Fallout 4. This makes Something Wicked Games an ideal fit for Will Shen’s capabilities.
Introducing Wyrdsong: A Medieval Portugal-based RPG
While details about Something Wicked’s upcoming RPG, Wyrdsong, are scarce, it has been revealed that the game will be set in medieval Portugal and will center around the mythology of the Knights Templar.
In an interview with TRG, Jeff Gardiner expressed his intentions for Wyrdsong and Something Wicked Games: “I wanted to create a safe space for creatives; that was my number one goal. You do that by establishing trust, by allowing people to fail and not feel like they did something wrong, by people feeling comfortable throwing a terrible idea in the room, without any bad repercussions.”
Although Wyrdsong currently only has an announcement trailer available, the combined talent of Will Shen and Jeff Gardiner suggests that the game has the potential to be something truly remarkable, possibly earning it a place among the best RPGs in the industry.
