PS5 Disc Install Errors Plague Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 Launch
Today marks the highly anticipated release of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 on the PS5, but unfortunately, some players have encountered a frustrating issue with disc installation. Many users have reported that the installation process gets stuck at 36%, causing the disc drive to stop reading and displaying a disc error. Despite numerous attempted workarounds, such as deleting and reinstalling, clearing the system cache, and rebuilding the database, players have been unable to resolve the issue. Some have even gone as far as trying the installation on a different console or swapping discs, only to encounter the same problem.
According to a member on ResetEra, a local store has informed them that Sony is aware of the problem and a patch is in the works, set to be released over the weekend. However, neither Insomniac Games nor Sony has issued an official statement addressing the issue. It remains to be seen if the report is accurate and if a patch will indeed be released.
On the other hand, players who opted for the digital version of the game have reported no issues with installation or preloading. Additionally, the digital version includes the substantial day-one update that brings new accessibility options and enhancements to the game’s opening sequences.
Despite the installation problems, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 has received widespread acclaim, achieving a remarkable 91% Metacritic score based on over 130 reviews. Whether or not these issues will have an impact on the game’s overall player rating remains to be seen. As a precautionary measure against review bombing, user scores cannot be submitted until 12:00pm PST on October 21st.
