A New Look at The Walking Dead: Destinies
Zombies have always been a classic go-to enemy type in the video game world. But, as time goes on, the slow, lumbering undead can seem less interesting to some players. That’s the exact issue with The Walking Dead: Destinies, a game based on the early seasons of the TV show. Unfortunately, it fails to bring anything new to the table, instead embodying the worst qualities of its source material and the horror game genre as a whole.
Repetitive Plot and Poor Design
Although The Walking Dead: Destinies tries to explore new storylines that differ from those in the TV show, it doesn’t do much to make itself stand out in terms of gameplay and visual style. Instead, it falls into the trap of unoriginal design, with mediocre character models and uninspired game environments being recycled multiple times throughout the game. In fact, the game’s visuals appear outdated, even when compared to older games from the Xbox 360 era.
Technical Issues and Lackluster Gameplay
The game’s technical issues further compound the problem. With poor texture resolution and inconsistent frame rates, it’s clear that the game leaves much to be desired in terms of visual quality. In addition to these issues, the gameplay itself is plagued by bugs, ranging from simple graphical glitches to game-breaking bugs that require a full restart. All of this adds up to an unenjoyable experience for any player.
Character and Storyline Failures
To make matters worse, The Walking Dead: Destinies struggles to tell a coherent story and authenticate its characters. Key elements of the TV show’s plot are missing, and pivotal moments in the game lack the impact they should have. Choices that should fundamentally change the storyline turn out to be nothing more than superficial, with no significant impact on how the game unfolds.
Uninspired Missions and Gameplay
Mission design also fails to impress, with repetitive objectives and nonsensical character assignments. The lack of explanations for these decisions leaves players with more questions than answers, all while trying to navigate through a world filled with bland, forgettable characters and scenarios.
