Halo Infinite‘s latest update is about to drop, and fans have a lot to look forward to. The much-anticipated return of the Firefight mode is set to be the highlight of the upcoming patch, scheduled for release on December 5th.
The new Firefight: King of the Hill mode, showcased in a recent trailer from 343 Industries, will pit you and three other players against waves of aliens as you work to capture hills across nine maps. These maps will include the House of Reckoning from the Halo Infinite campaign, as well as three community-made maps, as confirmed by both the trailer and the official Halo blog, Halo Waypoint.
Notably, the new mode will integrate seamlessly with the current leveling and battle pass system, allowing players in Firefight to earn career rank and match XP, similar to the player vs. player (PvP) modes.
The trailer showcases stunning visuals, featuring a team of Spartans navigating a Warthog before encountering a Hunter, a formidable alien adversary. To help players in such situations, a new item is being introduced: the Repair Field. This will enable players to repair their vehicles on the go, without the need for respawning. The addition of this feature could have a significant impact, especially on maps with numerous vehicles.
For newcomers to the Halo franchise, Firefight mode made its debut in Halo 3: ODST, offering a unique experience as regular humans faced off against waves of increasingly tough alien enemies. Various modifiers kept the gameplay fresh and engaging, quickly making the mode a fan favorite.
In addition to the revival of Firefight, the mid-season update will deliver enhancements to Ranked player game modes, updates to the popular Forge mode, and improvements to the Custom Game Browser, as well as improvements to the overall stability and network infrastructure of Halo Infinite.
