Konami Announces Contra: Operation Galuga
In September, Konami revealed plans for a new Contra game that pays homage to the series’ 2D origins. The upcoming game, titled Contra: Operation Galuga, is a reimagining of the classic NES original. Developed by Wayforward, the game features six playable heroes, each with unique abilities. A recent trailer introduces these characters and showcases their individual strengths.
New Trailer Highlights Gameplay and Characters
The trailer not only provides a glimpse of the modernized run-and-gun action in Operation Galuga, but also gives insight into the game’s storyline. It harkens back to the classic Contra experience, allowing up to four players to join forces in intense battles against enemy forces. The game’s narrative centers around a group of heroes confronting the Red Falcon terrorist faction, with each character bringing a unique set of skills to the fight.
Meet the Heroes:
- Bill Rizer: A highly skilled leader with expertise in various armaments and military tactics.
- Lance Bean: An expert marksman and former guerrilla fighter recruited into the Earth Marine Corps.
- Ariana: A fierce warrior seeking revenge after her village is attacked by Red Falcon.
- Lucia: A proficient field operative and deputy commander in the Earth Marine Corps.
- Lt. Stanley Ironside: A veteran leader equipped with a powerful exosuit to enhance his combat abilities.
- Probotector: Advanced training robots designed to support the Contra Unit in battle.
In addition to their unique abilities, players can enhance each character with up to two perks purchased from an in-game shop using virtual credits. Notably, Konami has stated that these perks are not tied to microtransactions, offering reassurance to players concerned about pay-to-win mechanics. Perks include respawn invulnerability and the option to start stages with specific weapons.
Game Modes and Release Date
Contra: Operation Galuga promises a diverse gameplay experience, featuring a story campaign, arcade mode, and a challenging 30-mission mode. The game is set to launch early next year on PlayStation and Xbox consoles, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
