Paladins are an extremely fun and versatile class in Baldur’s Gate 3 that benefits greatly from the best feats. There are a lot of options, but the feats I recommend in this guide play to a BG3 Paladin’s strengths.
Baldur’s Gate 3: Best Paladin feats
- Savage Attacker – After landing a melee attack, you roll your damage dice twice and use the highest result.
- Mage Slayer – When a creature casts a spell within melee range of you, you have Advantage on any Saving Throw against it and you can use a reaction to immediately attack the caster. Enemies you hit have Disadvantage on Concentration Saving Throws.
- Heavy Armor Master – Incoming damage from non-magical attacks gets reduced by three while you’re wearing Heavy Armor. Increase your Strength by one, to a maximum of 20.
- Tough – Your hit point maximum increases by two for every level you have gained.
Paladins are versatile classes in Baldur’s Gate 3 considering how you can focus them around support spells, enemy control spells, or up-close-and-personal damage. In my opinion, you should do a little bit of both, but the main playstyle you’ll want to embody is being your party’s tank. With that in mind, the best Paladin feats in Baldur’s Gate 3 are Savage Attacker, Mage Slayer, Heavy Armor Master, and Tough.
Savage Attacker
Savage Attacker is the best feat you can take for any and all melee-heavy classes, of which Paladin is one. Paladins are all about dishing out high melee weapon damage through regular attacks and magical Smite attacks. This is why Savage Attacker is so good for Paladins — always hit with maximum damage.
Mage Slayer
Mage Slayer is a solid feat for Paladins because, again, their main focus is to close the gap between themselves and the enemy. With Mage Slayer, if you focus on spellcasters first, you’ll be able to hit them with an Opportunity Attack when they cast spells, have Advantage on Saving Throws against spells cast on you, and you’ll give them Disadvantage on Concentration Saving Throws. Win, win, win.
Heavy Armor Master
Paladins naturally have access to Heavy Armor from the beginning, which is why Heavy Armor Master is an amazing feat for them. If you’re looking for help staying alive on the battlefield, take this feat first. Otherwise, it can wait until later. The Heavy Armor Master is the cherry on top as it reduces incoming non-magical damage by three and gives you an extra point of Strength.
Tough
Though you usually only get three feats, if you don’t like something above or need even more help with reducing damage, take Tough. This feat gives you extra HP per level, which can be very useful.
Those are the Paladin feats I recommend to finish creating the best build. While there are a lot of good Paladin builds, if you want to discover the best Paladin builds, we can help you there, too.
