The Nvidia GeForce RTX 4070 Super has arrived as part of Nvidia’s new Super-branded graphics card refresh that was announced at CES 2024. At a similar price point to the original GeForce RTX 4070, this newer version offers more cores with only a slightly higher power consumption, making an already great graphics card even better. While it might not be worth upgrading from the RTX 4070 to the RTX 4070 Super, if you have an older graphics card, now could be the ideal time to make the switch.

Redefining the Mid-Range

Graphics card prices have been on the rise in the mid-range segment over the past few years, making the Nvidia RTX 4070 Super’s $599 price tag welcome news. The new Super version of the RTX 4070 is a substantial upgrade over the original RTX 3070, and it sets a new standard for what a mid-range graphics card should look like, even if it’s a bit pricier than preferred. The Super is completely replacing the original GPU.

The RTX 4070 Super, available at the same $599 cost as the original RTX 4070, features 10 more Streaming Multiprocessors, resulting in a total of 7,168 CUDA cores compared to the original’s 5,888. This, coupled with the boost clock of 2,475 MHz, delivers significantly better performance, particularly at higher resolutions. The Super is also equipped with 16GB of RAM, an upgrade from the 12GB of RAM in the RTX 4070.

The Founder’s Edition of the RTX 4070 Super sports a slightly different look with black branding and retains the familiar port options, while the cooling solution remains unchanged, providing optimal performance.
