Iconic game designer and the founder of Kojima Productions, Hideo Kojima, has revealed more details about his upcoming action-espionage game and the reasons behind its creation.

Kojima’s New IP

Kojima’s new game, tentatively titled ‘Physint,’ is a brand new IP being developed in collaboration with Sony. Production is expected to start after the release of ‘Death Stranding 2: On the Beach’ in 2025. The game is part of Kojima’s ambition to “transcend the barriers between film and video games” as he announced in a recent ‘HideoTube’ presentation.

In the presentation, Kojima expressed his vision for the new project, stating that it will be a game and a movie at the same time, blurring the lines between the two. He also acknowledged the persistent demand from fans to return to the espionage genre. Kojima emphasized that fans’ feedback and support have influenced his decision to create an action-espionage game, despite his inclination towards new and innovative ideas.

Return to Espionage

Reflecting on his career as an independent game designer and the challenges he faced, Kojima highlighted that he had been contemplating new directions while facing demands from fans for another ‘Metal Gear’ game. He revealed that his illness during the 2020 pandemic led him to recognize the significance of fulfilling his fans’ desires. This realization prompted him to reconsider his priorities and embark on the new action-espionage game project.

Despite receiving numerous requests from Hollywood to make films, Kojima’s devotion to his company and the encouragement from fellow creators, including Guillermo del Toro, affirmed his decision to focus on creating a game that blurs the lines between gaming and cinematic experiences.
