The president of Xbox, Sarah Bond, has officially announced that the company is already preparing for the next generation of hardware and is striving to provide “the most significant technological advancement ever seen in a hardware generation.”
Bond discussed this during the most recent episode of the Official Xbox Podcast, which premiered today (February 15), and outlined the company’s future plans for Xbox. Although she didn’t delve into the specifics, she hinted that some hardware news will be revealed “this holiday season,” indicating that there is much to anticipate towards the end of the year.
“There’s some exciting stuff coming out in hardware that we’re going to share this holiday, and we’re also invested in the next-generation roadmap,” she said. “What we’re really focused on there is delivering the largest technical leap you will have ever seen in a hardware generation, which makes it better for players and better for creators and the visions that they’re building.”
The podcast episode contained several news updates for fans to analyze, notably confirming that four Xbox games that were previously released as console exclusives will soon be available on other platforms. This follows weeks of speculation regarding a wide range of Xbox games being considered for multi-platform release.
Addressing this, head of Microsoft Gaming Phil Spencer affirmed that there is no broader change to Xbox’s “fundamental exclusive strategy” in progress. He did not directly name the games, but suggested that two of them are “community-driven,” and the other two are “smaller games that were never really meant to be built as kind of platform exclusives.” It was also clarified that neither Starfield nor Indiana Jones and the Great Circle are included in this lineup.
The release dates for these four games are currently unknown, but Spencer stated that the teams working on them have “announced plans that are not too far away,” so fans will simply have to stay tuned.
