Sea of Thieves launches on PlayStation in April

Xbox Announces PlayStation Release Date for Sea of Thieves

Xbox has finally revealed the PlayStation release date for its popular pirate live service game Sea of Thieves, developed by British studio Rare. PlayStation 5 players will have the opportunity to wishlist the game starting tomorrow, 22nd February, with the official launch date set for 30th April on Sony’s console.

In addition to Sea of Thieves, a blog post from Microsoft has also confirmed the PlayStation release dates for Pentiment (tomorrow, 22nd February) and Grounded (16th April), both of which coincide with the dates announced for Switch in the recent Nintendo Direct.

The same blog post has also solidified the leaked launch date for Hi-Fi Rush, which was inadvertently revealed by Bethesda earlier today. The confirmed release date for Hi-Fi Rush is set for 19th March. Both Pentiment and Grounded are scheduled to be released on PS4 as well as PS5, while Hi-Fi Rush and Sea of Thieves will be exclusive to PS5.

To address concerns from Xbox fans, Microsoft emphasized that these four games are simply additions to existing multiplatform franchises like Minecraft, Call of Duty, Overwatch, and Diablo, which already have a presence on multiple platforms. This reassurance comes in the wake of Xbox’s cautious approach to its multiplatform future, as outlined in a recent podcast, and earlier reports of possible PlayStation launches for bigger games such as Starfield and Indiana Jones.
