Tekken 8, Suicide Squad, Persona 3 Reload, And New Like A Dragon Were Top Sellers Last Month In US

New Releases Dominate Top 10 Best-Selling Games of January 2024 in the U.S.

Last month saw a wave of new game releases that resonated well with players, as indicated by the latest Circana U.S. Video Game Market Highlights report. In January 2024, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III secured the top spot for best-selling games in the U.S., but several fresh titles managed to break into the top 10.

Among these new releases were Tekken 8, Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League, Persona 3 Reload, and Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth.

Further down the list, additional new releases from last month made their mark in the top 20 rankings. Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown by Ubisoft claimed the 13th spot, while Jujutsu Kaisen: Cursed Clash from Bandai Namco secured the 19th position.

Diving into platform-specific data, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III was the top-selling premium game on both PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. Tekken 8, Suicide Squad, and Persona 3 Reload also performed well on these platforms, clinching prominent positions within the top rankings.

Super Mario Bros. Wonder topped the charts on the Nintendo Switch in terms of physical sales, with Hogwarts Legacy following closely behind. Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown secured the fifth spot on the Switch rankings.

Palworld, a unique survival game known as the “Pokémon With Guns,” achieved significant success last month, crossing 25 million players. It emerged as the top title on Steam and ranked third on Xbox gameplay charts. Additionally, Fortnite maintained its dominance as the most played game on both Xbox Series X/S and PS5 in January 2024.

The Circana report highlighted the PS5 as the leading hardware platform of the month, both in units sold and dollar sales. While the Switch held the second position in units sold, the Xbox Series X/S secured the second spot in dollar sales. Overall video game hardware spending experienced a slight decline compared to the previous year.

Accessory spending, on the other hand, witnessed a notable increase, with the PS5’s DualSense Edge emerging as the top-selling accessory of the month. Moreover, the PlayStation Portal transitioned into the Accessory category, securing the fifth spot in accessory spending for January 2024.

Overall video game spending across all categories showed a positive growth trajectory, indicating a 15 percent increase compared to the same period last year. It is important to note that January 2024 had five tracking weeks, while January 2023 only had four weeks for comparison purposes.
