WWE 2K24 Review – IGN

The Evolution of WWE 2K Series

Being on an annual release schedule can be tough, especially for big sports series like WWE 2K. The infamous 2K20 was a disaster that forced publisher 2K to take a two-year break and come back with a fresh redesign. This led to the much-improved WWE 2K24, which seems to be the culmination of this new vision for the series. While there are still some lingering issues, overall, WWE 2K24 is a step up from its predecessors.

The Visual Appeal

One thing that stands out immediately in WWE 2K24 is its visual fidelity. The game continues to hold the title for the “Best Looking Wrestling Game,” with updated character models that closely resemble their real-life counterparts. From their hairstyles to their gear, the attention to detail is impressive. Even the minor characters like referees have been given a realistic makeover, adding to the overall authenticity of the game.

Gameplay Mechanics

When it comes to gameplay, WWE 2K24 introduces some new elements like the Super Finisher, which adds a fresh twist to signature moves. The game also features a trading blows minigame, although it can feel disruptive at times. Despite these additions, the core gameplay remains largely unchanged from previous editions.

MyRise and Universe Mode

The MyRise mode offers two engaging storylines for players to dive into, each filled with drama and comedy that capture the essence of WWE. Universe Mode, on the other hand, introduces a few new features like post-PLE trades and individual superstar perks. While MyGM mode doesn’t see significant improvements, it still offers a solid experience for players looking to manage their own wrestling universe.

Wrestlemania Showcase

Unfortunately, Wrestlemania Showcase falls short of expectations, with a selection of matches that fail to capture the magic of the iconic event. The mode feels more like a checklist than a meaningful gameplay experience, despite some improvements in progression mechanics.

Universe Mode and MyGM

Universe Mode stays largely the same as previous iterations, offering players the chance to oversee the WWE Universe’s booking. While there are some new rivalry actions and run-ins to spice up the gameplay, the mode may feel familiar to returning players. MyGM mode, on the other hand, sees some notable enhancements with added features like individual ring levels and new power cards.
