Final Fantasy 14 Dawntrail Embraces Final Fantasy 9 References
There are numerous nods to Final Fantasy 9 in the collector’s edition of Final Fantasy 14 Dawntrail, and it seems this is no mere coincidence.
“You may have noticed a lot of Final Fantasy 9 references here… And the reason is a secret,” revealed producer/director Naoki “Yoshi-P” Yoshida during his PAX East panel, leaving fans intrigued. Despite the teasing, Yoshida remained tight-lipped and refused to divulge any further information.
While Yoshida’s response may fuel speculation, it’s worth noting that whispers of a FF9 remake surfaced following a leak from the GeForce Now database, which also included titles like Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Kingdom Hearts 4.
Yoshida’s discretion aside, details about the game editions for Dawntrail, including a digital collector’s edition and others, will be available on the official website to assist fans in their purchase decisions.
Set for a full release on July 2, 2024, with early access starting on June 28, players and the development team have a small window to enjoy Elden Ring’s Shadow of the Erdtree DLC before diving into Dawntrail.
Following the success of Endwalker, Dawntrail promises a return of beloved characters and a captivating sea-faring setting inspired by regions like South America.
