Xbox Honors Akira Toriyama With A Nod To Blue Dragon

Xbox Pays Tribute to Akira Toriyama with Blue Dragon Dashboard Background

Xbox recently released a dynamic dashboard background featuring artwork from the 2006 game Blue Dragon to honor the recent passing of legendary artist Akira Toriyama. The background showcases protagonist Shu and his Blue Dragon shadow, reminiscent of the game’s original cover art. Toriyama, along with Yoshihito Takahashi, worked on the artwork for Blue Dragon, which was the debut game from Mistwalker, co-developed by Artoon.

A Tribute to a Legend

Akira Toriyama, known for creating popular franchises like Dragon Ball, Dr. Slump, and Sand Land, passed away earlier this month at the age of 68 due to a brain condition. His influence in the world of art and entertainment is immeasurable, and his work on video games such as Dragon Quest and Chrono Trigger has left a lasting impact.

Blue Dragon Legacy

Blue Dragon was first released in 2006 in Japan and later in 2007 worldwide for the Xbox 360. Players can still experience the game on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S through backward compatibility. The Blue Dragon series expanded with two more games, Blue Dragon Plus and Blue Dragon: Awakened Shadow, released for the Nintendo DS.

Upcoming Project

Before his passing, Toriyama was involved in the development of Sand Land, an RPG based on one of his manga creations. The game is set to launch on April 26 for PC, PS4, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S, keeping his legacy alive in the world of gaming.
