No Rest for the Wicked’s Creative Director Defends Early Access Decision
Moon Studios, the team behind the beloved Ori and the Blind Forest, recently launched their latest action RPG, No Rest for the Wicked, in early access on Steam. While the game has received positive feedback, there have been criticisms regarding its performance and current state.
As expected, since the game is still in early access, the version players are experiencing is not the final product. Moon Studios has assured fans that they are committed to making improvements based on feedback during this early access phase.
The CEO and creative director of No Rest for the Wicked, Thomas Mahler, took to Twitter to defend the decision to release the game in early access. He believes that early access is a valuable tool for game development and that it has been instrumental in shaping the final product of their game.
Mahler also pointed out that as games become more complex, early access can provide developers with essential feedback and data that would be challenging to gather otherwise. He even suggested that some past games, like Dark Souls, could have benefited from an early access period to address certain areas that needed further polish.
While Mahler acknowledges that the concept of early access may not appeal to everyone, he emphasizes the value it brings in allowing developers to refine and perfect their games over time. He is optimistic that we will see more ambitious and innovative projects come to life through early access programs in the future.
It’s worth noting that No Rest for the Wicked is also scheduled for release on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S in the future.
Baldur’s Gate 3, another game that went through an extensive early access period, eventually launched to critical acclaim and numerous Game of the Year awards after three years of updates and improvements.
