The Next Xbox Games Showcase and Call of Duty Direct
The upcoming Xbox Games Showcase is set to be live-streamed this summer, with a potential surprise in store for fans of the Call of Duty franchise.
Microsoft has officially announced that the Xbox showcase will take place on Sunday, June 9 at 10AM PT / 1PM ET / 6PM GMT. Following this event, there will be a secretive “Redacted Direct”, similar to the Starfield Direct from the previous year.
The direct will immediately follow the Xbox broadcast, and according to a blog post on Xbox Wire, this year’s double-feature will provide a “deep dive into the next installment of a beloved franchise.”
While the specific game series has not been confirmed, Microsoft shared a teaser image that hints towards the Call of Duty Direct. The image features an orange and black emblem with three dog heads on top of the US capitol building, suggesting an imminent announcement related to the popular game series (via The Verge).
Given that a new Call of Duty game is typically unveiled annually, it is likely that the next major title will be revealed during this event on June 9.
Microsoft has also teased that the Xbox Games Showcase will include games from its studios (Activision, Blizzard, Bethesda, and Xbox Game Studios) as well as titles from third-party partners.
According to Tom Warren of The Verge, there are rumors of a new Gears of War game announcement during the stream, along with release date announcements for games like Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024, Avowed, and Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, the latter of which had its first trailer debut in January.
Additionally, there may be news about the release date for Starfield‘s Shattered Space expansion, which Todd Howard has confirmed will be launching in the fall.
