Absurd Ventures: New Open World Action-Adventure Game in the Works
Absurd Ventures, the media company founded by Dan Houser, co-founder and creative director of Rockstar Games, after his departure in 2020, has recently announced that they are working on an exciting new project – an “open world action-adventure” game.
Mission and Projects
Absurd Ventures made its official debut in June with a clear mission of “building narrative worlds, creating characters, and writing stories for a diverse variety of genres” across various mediums such as live-action, animation, games, books, graphic novels, and scripted podcasts. In November, the company revealed its first two projects, American Caper and A Better Paradise, which are set to launch this year. These projects are described as two “universes” that will initially debut as a graphic novel and a podcast, with plans to expand across different formats and platforms.
New Job Listing Confirms Game Development
A recent job listing on Absurd Ventures’ website has confirmed that the company is also venturing into the world of gaming with an “open world action-adventure game.” The game aims to deliver “best-in-class combat and third-person action across multiple game modes.” While it remains unclear whether the game will be based on one of the previously announced universes or a completely new concept, it is evident that the company is in the early stages of development. The careers page indicates that Absurd Ventures is actively recruiting for high-level positions including art director, senior art director, lead designer, lead gameplay designer, senior producer, senior technical director, and technical director.
Towards the end of last year, Absurd Ventures welcomed Michael Unsworth, former vice president of writing at Rockstar Games, known for his work on the Red Dead Redemption series, LA Noire, GTA 4, and GTA 5, to join the team. Additionally, Lazlow Jones, a former writer and producer at Rockstar, has also come on board as an executive producer. With these creative talents driving the company forward, the upcoming open world action-adventure game is definitely something to keep an eye on.
