Ubisoft’s beleaguered pirate adventure Skull and Bones is getting a free week-long trial

Skull and Bones Free Week-Long Trial and Season 2 Launch

Ubisoft’s long-awaited pirate adventure game, Skull and Bones, is finally getting a free trial next week. This trial comes alongside the launch of the game’s second season of post-launch content.

After 11 years in development, the release of Skull and Bones in February was met with a claim of “record player engagement” from Ubisoft. However, sales figures were not disclosed, leaving the success of the game up in the air. In an effort to boost interest, Ubisoft is offering a week-long trial for players across all platforms from Thursday, 30th May to Thursday, 6th June. During this trial period, players will have full access to the game and any progress made can be carried over if they choose to purchase the full game. To sweeten the deal, Ubisoft is also offering a 50 percent discount on Skull and Bones for a limited time.

This free trial coincides with the launch of the second season of post-launch content on 28th May. While details about the new content are scarce, a story trailer provides a glimpse into the narrative. “The Hubac Twins have been dispatched by the Compagnie Royale to seize control of the Indian Ocean and eliminate the pirate scourge,” teases Ubisoft. “Demonstrating dangerous abilities through song, they blaze across the high seas, hunting pirates in a violent duet and laying claim to the region’s riches.”

But the big question remains – is Skull and Bones worth your time? In a less-than-impressed two-star review earlier this year, doubts were raised about the game’s overall appeal. While moments of excitement can be found in ship-to-ship combat and engaging with other players, Skull and Bones falls short due to uninspiring quests and tedious progression mechanics. Despite occasional flashes of brilliance, the game struggles to maintain a consistent level of entertainment. Ultimately, a swashbuckling pirate adventure should not feel consistently dull.
