One aspect I appreciate about Connections is how the NYT’s puzzle-setters cleverly insert red herrings to confuse players. For example, seeing words like BITTER, SWEET, and SALTY—three of the five basic tastes—might lead one to think they belong together. But the inclusion of HOT is a sly misdirection by the NYT, as those words do not form a single group.
After avoiding that misleading path, I focused on the meanings of SCATTER, SPRINKLE, and STREW, realizing they shared a common theme. Additionally, I had initially considered PEPPER as part of a food-related grouping with ONION and CAKE, but it also fit within another category. With persistence, I successfully solved each group.

What is NYT Connections?
NYT Connections is a popular word game created by the New York Times. Players are tasked with identifying groups of four items that share a common link, with varying levels of difficulty: green for easier groups, yellow for moderate challenges, blue for tougher sets, and purple for the most complex puzzles.
Additionally, players are allowed up to four mistakes and can deduce the final group through process of elimination. The game introduces nuances and wordplay tricks that can catch players off guard, such as homophones and other linguistic traps.
