Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 Gameplay Trailer Released
Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 has unveiled a new gameplay trailer in anticipation of its upcoming launch later this year.
After being initially announced in 2021, this action-packed third-person shooter hack-n-slash has faced some delays, but it is finally nearing its release date.
With just a few months to go until the game hits the shelves, Focus Entertainment and Saber Interactive have provided a comprehensive preview of what players can expect from the next chapter in the Warhammer 40,000 series.
The recently released six-minute gameplay trailer, which was narrated by creative director Oliver Hollis-Leick, delves into the game’s story campaign, multiplayer co-op modes, and progression systems.
The storyline of Space Marine 2 takes place a hundred years after the events of the first game, putting players in control of Ultramarines Lieutenant Demetrian Titus, a genetically enhanced super soldier who must prove his allegiance after being demoted.
The gameplay footage showcases intense action sequences, highlighting the implementation of “swarm technology” that allows for hundreds of enemies on screen simultaneously. Additionally, a melee finisher move can replenish the player’s armor when executed correctly, prolonging their combat effectiveness.
Players can expect a headquarters hub where they can interact with personnel, choose their next mission, and customize their loadout in between missions.
Aside from the main campaign, gamers can engage in Operations, a PvE mode focused on replayability and teamwork. In this mode, players can upgrade their classes with up to 25 perks using Armoury Data and experience earned on the battlefield. Furthermore, Armoury Data can be used to enhance weapons throughout different missions, unlocking more potent variants and unique cosmetics.
An additional feature is the PvP mode called Eternal War, offering three different match types in a 6v6 setting: Deathmatch, Sieze Ground, and Capture and Control.
Both Operations and Eternal War feature six playable classes – Tactical, Assault, Vanguard, Bulwark, Sniper, and Heavy – each with their own set of weapons and loadout options.
Furthermore, Saber Interactive has confirmed that the game will receive continuous free updates post-launch, including new Operations missions, PvP maps, enemies, and weapons. Players can also look forward to additional cosmetics and Chapter heraldry through the Season Pass, without any microtransactions or premium currency.
Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 is a highly-anticipated third-person shooter and sequel to the 2011 original. It is slated for release on September 9 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC platforms.
