Developers of Canceled Disco Elysium Sequel Form New Studio
A group of developers who were initially tapped to work on the canceled sequel to Disco Elysium have announced the formation of a new development studio, Longdue Games. The studio’s upcoming game is described as being “set in a game world conceived by the leads of the now-canceled Disco Elysium sequel.”
Background of Longdue Games
Longdue Games consists of about a dozen developers, many of whom either worked on Disco Elysium or were previously slated to work on its sequel before it was canceled. The sequel’s cancellation stemmed from legal disagreements between the game’s development studio/publisher ZA/UM and Disco Elysium game director Robert Kurvitz and art director Aleksander Rostov. Despite describing its upcoming title as a “spiritual successor” to the original game, Kurvitz, Rostov, and ZA/UM are not involved in the project.
About Longdue’s New Game
Longdue’s debut project aims to continue the narrative-first approach that defined Disco Elysium. The game explores the intricate relationship between the mind and environment, offering players a story-driven experience where their choices shape both the world and its characters. Like its predecessor, the upcoming RPG focuses on psychological depth and player choices, with the developers striving to honor Disco Elysium’s legacy.
Game Details
Longdue’s upcoming title is described as “a psychogeographic RPG with narrative depth,” exploring the interplay between the conscious and subconscious. The game presents players with difficult choices that will have a ripple effect between the character’s psyche and the environment, creating a constantly shifting landscape shaped by internal and external forces. Every decision in the game impacts both the world and its characters.
Future Updates
While the title of the upcoming RPG has not been revealed yet, Longdue Games is expected to provide updates on the project’s development on their official website as work progresses.
