Baldur’s Gate 3’s Patch 8 adds long-awaited split-screen co-op for Xbox Series S

Exploring Baldur’s Gate 3’s Patch 8 Stress Test

After a minor delay, Baldur’s Gate 3’s Patch 8 stress test has begun on Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC. This test allows chosen participants to experience new features before the official release, including split-screen co-op support for Xbox Series S – a feature that fans have eagerly been anticipating.

Larian, the game developer, unveiled details about Patch 8 last November, which promised 12 new sub-classes, cross-play functionality, enhanced camera features, and more. The closed stress test is aimed at identifying and addressing any potential issues before the full launch. Registration for the stress test has been open since the initial announcement.

The first wave of invites has been sent out to successful applicants, and Patch 8’s stress test is now live. Larian has provided essential information in a blog post, discussing the use of mods during cross-play and guidance on obtaining additional keys for participants who want to try out cross-play with friends who aren’t part of the test yet.

The highlight of Patch 8 is the addition of split-screen co-op for Xbox Series S, a feature that was initially causing challenges for Larian. It was even blamed for the delayed release of Baldur’s Gate 3 on Xbox in 2023. However, after months of optimization struggles, the feature was eventually dropped for Series S. Now, over a year later, Larian has confirmed that split-screen co-op will be included in Patch 8, just in time for the game’s final content update. Stress test participants on Xbox can now experience this feature ahead of the official release.

Although Larian has not specified the duration of the stress test before Patch 8’s full release, players eager to participate can still register their interest on the game’s website.
