One of the coolest elements of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is the plethora of items and weapons at your disposal. Alas, your inventory can only hold a limited number of them. Consequently, you must discard items to add new ones. However, tossing them into the bin is dull; throwing them instead is guaranteed to elevate your gaming experience. Here’s our guide on how to throw items and weapons in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.

NB: In the event that you plan on using an arrow fused with an item to can cause elemental damage, refer to this process as we’ve covered it elsewhere.

Throwing Items and Weapons in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom

You might end up throwing a weapon by accident if you’re a button-masher. Alternatively, you might wish to throw a bomb flower at an obstruction in your way. Various situations may necessitate throwing an item or weapon.

To throw items and weapons, begin by pressing and holding the right trigger button. If you’re holding a weapon such as a spear or sword, you’ll be prompted to raise it up as if to throw it. If the weapon you’re holding is the one you wish to throw, simply release the trigger button and watch the carnage unfold.

There will be times, though, when you’ll want to throw something other than a weapon, such as an item. If you find yourself in this predicament, maintain the trigger button’s press and wait for the prompt to appear on your screen. While employing the Pro Controller, I hold onto the R button to prepare my throw. I then hold the Up button on the d-pad, which calls up an itemized list of all available materials. While still pressing the R and Up buttons , I’ll alternate between my options using the right analog stick until I locate the item I’d wish to throw. Finally, I’ll release the buttons, causing the item to soar through the air.

After following the instructions above, you may come to the appalling realization that you don’t want to cast an item. If that’s the case, don’t panic, as you can undo it. Still holding onto both the R and Up buttons, press the appropriate button (in my case, B) to back out of using the item. Before releasing the trigger button, press B one more time to abandon the casting process altogether.
