CD Projekt RED Aims to Attract Newcomers with The Witcher 4
CD Projekt RED recently revealed that the upcoming The Witcher 4 will not only appeal to existing fans of the franchise but also target newcomers. The studio is committed to building a new community and ensuring that the next installment serves as an accessible entry point for those who are not familiar with the previous games.
Setting the Bar Higher
In a recent interview with Lega Nerd, Game Director of the new Witcher saga, Sebastian Kalemba, explained that CD Projekt RED is aware of the time gap between the previous Witcher games and the forthcoming title, emphasizing that it will take “a few years” before the game is released. As a result, the studio aims to avoid limiting its audience solely to existing fans of the franchise.
Kalemba stated, “We want to continue in the same direction we had taken, but we don’t want to play the same game.” He noted that while the studio will retain the core elements of the lore and universe, they also seek to “innovate” in a way that will make The Witcher 4 accessible to newcomers.
Furthermore, Kalemba emphasized the necessity of catering to a new audience, stating, “It is clear that we have to try to please a new audience. We cannot target only the audience who is already fond of the saga. We also need to create a new community, and on this, I think I can say that it will be an excellent entry point for many players.”
He also confirmed that The Witcher 4 will strive to surpass the success of its universally-acclaimed predecessor.
