Rust – How to Change Wire Color

Electricity in Rust can be one of the hardest things to master. As you try to build a fully automated base, you will often bump into annoying problems that you won’t know how to solve.

One of the more annoying things that can happen is you don’t understand which wire connects to which power source or consumer. This can be very annoying when you use a lot of Splitter and Combiners, as you won’t know what output leads to which input.

Luckily, there is a way to keep track of your wires. If you just changed the color of the wires you were using, you can easily understand what each wire connects.

To change the wire color in Rust, all you need to do is hold the Wire Tool in your hands and hold R to open the color wheel. Select the color you want to use and drag the wire with the desired color all over your base.

How to Change Wire Color in Rust

If you want to change the wire color in Rust, you just have to hold the Wire Tool and hold R. This will open the color wheel where you can choose what color you want your wire to have.

There are 10 colors you can choose to use for your Wire Tool in Rust, in this exact order on the wheel:

  • Black
  • Red
  • Green
  • Blue
  • Yellow
  • Light Blue
  • Orange
  • Pink
  • Purple
  • White

The wire will have the color you choose from the desired start to finish. You can’t change the color in the middle of dragging the wire from an output to an input.

However, you can change the color of a wire you have already placed in Rust. Just find the corresponding output or input source of the wire, select the color you want from the Wire Tool’s color wheel, and press R while looking at the wire’s output or input source.

This will instantly change the color of the wire that is going out from that spot to the one you just selected on the color wheel.

This way, you can use a special color for each source of electricity. Or, it will help you understand where each output of a Splitter is going. Just change the color of the wire each time you want to drag a new wire across your base.

Since you can change the colors at any time, you can just concentrate on dragging some beautiful wires across your base and think about the colors later.

That’s everything you need to know about how to change the wire color in Rust!
