PlayStation Will Release ‘2 or More’ Major Exclusives Per Year

Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO, Jim Ryan, recently announced that the company intends to release at least two “major” first-party PlayStation 5 exclusives per year. Ryan’s comments come after Sony CEO Kenichiro Yoshida expressed plans to increase active users of the PS5 by releasing more exclusives and taking other measures.

Different Genres and Game Types to be Covered in PS5 Exclusives

During his presentation, Ryan shared that PlayStation Studios plans to release “two or more major releases” every year, covering “every major genre.” Sony has mentioned on a slide that it plans to cover genres such as shooter, RPG, action, sports, racing, and platformer, as examples.

Furthermore, the company plans to release a combination of both live service games and single-player games. The upcoming games, including new IPs and existing franchises, will be diverse and cater to a wide range of gaming preferences.

Sony aims to achieve a 50/50 investment split between new and existing IP by fiscal year 2025 after having 80% of its investments in existing IP in FY19. Ryan mentioned that Sony intends to broaden its IP beyond gaming, following the success of The Last of Us TV series and the Uncharted movie.
