EA Games breaks into two companies | Pocket Gamer.biz

Electronic Arts Restructures with New Branches and Leadership

Electronic Arts (EA) has undergone a significant internal reorganization, led by CEO Andrew Wilson. The company has divided its gaming arm into two distinct branches: EA Sports and EA Entertainment. This restructuring hints at a possible expansion into non-gaming ventures for EA Entertainment.

This move aims to capitalize on the opportunities presented by engaging with growing audiences, fostering massive online communities, creating blockbuster interactive storytelling, and leveraging social and creator tools. Wilson emphasized the importance of creativity and innovation as the foundation for EA’s strategic vision.

EA Entertainment Takes Charge of Mobile Games

All mobile games now come under the purview of EA Entertainment, a segment that has experienced success despite recent growth stagnation and the high-profile shutdown of Apex Legends Mobile. Jeff Karp will continue as the senior vice president of mobile games.

FIFA Mobile, a highly popular game, will remain classified as a mobile game and will operate under the new EA Entertainment umbrella. The game recently reached a remarkable milestone by surpassing $1 billion in revenue worldwide. It joined the prestigious “Unicorn Club” of mobile games achieving this feat. Notably, China accounted for 26.5% of FIFA Mobile’s revenue, followed by South Korea at 15.1% and the USA at 14.5%. It is noteworthy that the game’s success in South Korea is impressive, considering its launch in the country occurred three years after its global release in 2016.

Wilson believes that by splitting the company into separate branches, each team can focus on their respective areas more effectively. Mobile gaming holds a prominent position in EA’s future plans, as mobile titles now sit alongside other renowned franchises under the EA Entertainment umbrella.

Note: Electronic Arts was recognized as one of the top 50 mobile game makers of 2022.
