The Outer Worlds 2 PS5 Version Is Still Being Decided On

The Fate of The Outer Worlds 2 on PS5 Still Undecided, Says Xbox Game Studios Head

When The Outer Worlds 2 was announced in June 2021, it was expected to be an Xbox Series X|S and PC title, given that Obsidian Entertainment is now part of Xbox’s family of developers. However, there is still speculation about whether the highly anticipated game will make its way to the PlayStation 5 (PS5) as well. During a recent Federal Trade Commission hearing about Microsoft’s proposal to acquire Activision, Xbox Game Studios head Matt Booty stated that a decision has not been made regarding The Outer Worlds 2’s availability on PS5.

Xbox’s tendency to keep franchises within its own platform family was mentioned by Booty. Considering that The Outer Worlds was initially released on PlayStation 4 and later on PlayStation 5 through the Spacer’s Choice Edition, there is a possibility that the sequel might also find its way to the PS5. Recent releases from Xbox Game Studios, such as Minecraft Dungeons and Minecraft Legends, have been made available on PlayStation and Nintendo systems. On the other hand, newer titles like Hi-Fi Rush, Redfall, and Starfield are exclusive to the Xbox consoles.

While the official website and Microsoft Store listing for The Outer Worlds 2 only mention Xbox Series X|S and PC as platforms, this does not confirm its exclusion from the PS5. It leaves room for the possibility of a PS5 release in the future. This stands in contrast to MachineGames’ Indiana Jones title, which was confirmed to be an exclusive for Xbox and PC during the hearings.
