Tears of the Kingdom – How to Complete The Long Dragon Side Quest

In the world of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, there are countless side quests and activities to discover. One such quest is The Long Dragon, which takes place in the mysterious Thyphlo Ruins. Our guide will walk you through the steps to complete this quest and obtain valuable loot.

The Setting: Thyphlo Ruins

To embark on The Long Dragon side quest, you must first journey to Thyphlo Ruins. These ruins are located in the heart of a lake to the north of the expansive Great Hyrule Forest. The quest is part of a series that must be completed in order to obtain the coveted Dusk Claymore.

Unleashing the Power of Riju

To begin The Long Dragon side quest, you must first assist Riju in clearing the Lightning Temple and unlocking her lightning ability. Riju will grant you this ability, but only after she has been aided in her own quest. Once you have acquired this power, you will be ready to attempt The Long Dragon side quest.

Journey to Thyphlo Ruins

Once you have cleared the Lightning Temple, make your way to Thyphlo Ruins. If you have already activated the Thyphlo Ruins Skyview Tower, you can fast travel to this location for convenience. From the tower’s steps, head towards the front and then veer left. In this area, you will come across a researcher who has set up camp. Speak to him and agree to assist him as his assistant, triggering the “Investigate the Thyphlo Ruins” side quest. He will present to you a set of large stone tablets related to the temples you have already conquered.

Decoding the Tablet

To activate The Long Dragon side quest, read the far right tablet. The inscription on the tablet speaks of a ‘dragon that protects the mountain of death’ and refers to displaying ‘the power of the Sage of Lightning.’

Uncovering the Dragon’s Tail

From the tablet, make your way to the southeastern shore of the island. To save time, I recommend climbing over the wall near the slabs. Along the shoreline, you will find several stone statues resembling snarling dragon heads. Look for the one closest to the southeast side. Nearby, you will discover buried stone slabs that guide you along the shore, leading you towards the dragon’s tail. Continue following this makeshift path until you reach a flat stone area just past two stone pillars. For the precise location, refer to the map screenshot provided above.

Activate Riju’s lightning ability to proceed. Ensure that Riju is accompanying you, then take out your bow and aim an arrow at the tail of the spine. Release the arrow to summon a bolt of lightning. The lightning strike will cause the flat stone slab to rise, exposing a hidden chamber. Inside the chamber, you will find a treasure chest containing three valuable Topaz gemstones. Once you have obtained the gems, you have successfully completed The Long Dragon side quest.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is now available for the Nintendo Switch, allowing players to embark on epic adventures in the kingdom of Hyrule.
