The Way of the Forester Part One Guide

Part One of the Forestry Update: A Comprehensive Guide

The highly-anticipated Part One of the Forestry update for OSRS has finally arrived, bringing with it exciting changes and new features for the Woodcutting skill. While Part Two is still a month away, players can dive right into the content offered in Part One. This article provides a detailed breakdown of everything you need to know about the update.

New Tree Despawn Mechanics & Invisible Woodcutting Boost

One of the major changes introduced in the Forestry update is the implementation of new tree despawn mechanics. Previously, players had to compete with each other and bots for trees. However, with the introduction of Forestry as a social Woodcutting activity, players no longer have to worry about competing for resources.

Trees now have set despawn timers. Once a player starts chopping a tree, a timer begins and the tree will regenerate if the player stops cutting before it’s completely chopped down. The despawn times for different trees are as follows:

  • Oak: 27s
  • Willow: 30s
  • Teak: 30s
  • Maple: 1m
  • Hollow Trees: 36s
  • Mahogany: 1m
  • Arctic Pine: 1m 24s
  • Yew: 1m 54s
  • Magic: 3m 54s
  • Redwood: 4m 24s

In addition, players are now encouraged to chop trees in larger groups. The more players there are chopping a tree, the greater the invisible boost to their Woodcutting skill. With ten players or more, players can receive up to a +10 invisible Woodcutting boost. This boost is particularly beneficial for slow-growing trees like yews, magics, and redwoods.

Note that the invisible Woodcutting boost does not apply in the Woodcutting Guild or while cutting normal trees.

The Friendly Forester & Forester Kit

The Forestry update introduces a new NPC called the Friendly Forester. Players can find him behind Draynor Bank and in Camelot, near the Woodcutting spot in Seers’ Village. The Friendly Forester offers the Forester Kit, which is essential for participating in Forestry activities. The Forester Kit can be purchased from the Friendly Forester for 120 GP.

Forestry Kit Items

The Forestry Kit includes several items that enhance the Forestry experience. Here are the key items and their functions:

Anima-Infused Bark

Anima-Infused Bark serves as the primary currency for Forestry activities. Players can use Anima-Infused Bark at the Friendly Forester’s Shop to purchase various Woodcutting and Forestry-related goods.

Leprechaun Charm

The Leprechaun Charm increases the chance of spawning a Woodcutting leprechaun after successfully chopping a log. It requires level 70 Crafting, level 70 Woodcutting, level 35 Farming, a Clover Insignia, an emerald, and a ball of wool to make.

Bee On A Stick

The Bee On A Stick increases the chances of spawning strange bushes to pollinate after successfully chopping a tree. Players need level 50 Hunter, level 35 Woodcutting, Powdered Pollen, a ball of wool, and some logs to make it. It’s important to note that players must be near a beehive to craft the Bee On A Stick.

Nature Offerings

Nature Offerings give players a 60-80% chance of receiving an extra log after successfully chopping a tree. To make them, players need level 50 Farming, level 68 Woodcutting, some Ritual Mulch, and a high-level herb such as Avantoe, Kwuarm, Snapdragon, Cadantine, Lantadyme, Dwarf Weed, or Torstol. Even if players don’t receive an additional log, they will still consume the Nature Offerings.

Forester’s Ration

The Forester’s Ration provides a 30% chance of restoring 20% run energy while chopping trees with a 1-Handed Axe. These rations require level 35 Cooking, level 35 Woodcutting, any leaves, and some cooked meat.

Secateurs Attachment

The Secateurs Attachment roughly doubles the number of leaves received while chopping trees. To make it, players need level 35 Smithing, level 35 Woodcutting, a Secateurs Blade, and an iron bar.

Leaves

Leaves come in various varieties, including normal, oak, willow, maple, yew, and magic. While they may not have much purpose in Part One of the Forestry update, they will be more relevant in Part Two, specifically in the Tea Brewing activity.

Forestry Events

Rising Roots

Rising Roots is one of the Forestry events and is considered the easiest. Periodically, roots will rise up from the ground, and players simply have to chop them to receive Anima-Infused Bark. Players should pay attention to the anima-infused roots that glow green, as they offer 5-6 Anima-Infused Bark per successful chop. Regular roots, on the other hand, only give 1-2 Anima-Infused Bark.

Flowering Tree

The Flowering Tree event requires players to have a Bee on a Stick in order to activate it. During this event, flowers will appear in the area, and players must identify which ones to pollinate. Successfully pollinating the right flowers rewards players with Anima-Infused Bark and additional rewards.

Struggling Sapling

The Struggling Sapling event involves a young tree sapling and five resource piles: wild mushrooms, droppings, rotting leaves, green leaves, and splintered bark. Players can create mulch using three portions from any of these resource piles to feed the sapling. Each event has a specific combination that the sapling prefers the most. The nutritional value of the mulch increases by 30% with each correct ingredient. The amount of Anima-Infused Bark received is based on the nutritional value of the mulch. Figuring out the correct combination can be challenging, especially when the resource piles are spread out.

Woodcutting Leprechaun

The Woodcutting Leprechaun event is the least exciting of the Forestry events. When a Woodcutting Leprechaun spawns, players can use it to bank their logs for free.

Friendly Forester Shop Rewards

The Friendly Forester Shop offers a range of rewards that players can purchase using Anima-Infused Bark:

Forestry Kit

The Forestry Kit is a wearable item that is required to engage in Forestry activities. Each Forestry Kit can be purchased for 120 GP.

Secateurs Blade

The Secateurs Blade is a required component for crafting the Secateurs Attachment. Players can purchase it for 20 Anima-Infused Bark, 10 oak logs, and 5 willow logs.

Ritual Mulch

Ritual Mulch is a component used to make Nature Offerings. Players can purchase it for 150 Anima-Infused Bark and 10 maple logs.

Clover Insignia

The Clover Insignia is a component used to make Leprechaun Charms. Players can purchase it for 200 Anima-Infused Bark and 15 oak logs.

Powdered Pollen

Powdered Pollen is a component used to make Bee on a Stick. Players can purchase it for 300 Anima-Infused Bark and 15 willow logs.

Log Brace

The Log Brace combines the Log Basket and Forestry Kit into one wearable item. Players can purchase it for 3,000 Anima-Infused Bark, 300 maple logs, 300 yew logs, level 75 Smithing, level 75 Woodcutting, 45 nails, 2 ropes, and 3 adamantite bars.

Log Basket

Similar to the Fish Barrel in the Fishing skill, the Log Basket allows players to store 28 additional logs of various types. It can be purchased for 5,000 Anima-Infused Bark, 300 noted willow logs, and 300 magic logs.
