A Preview of Armored Core 6 Fires of Rubicon

A 10-minute gameplay preview for Armored Core 6 Fires of Rubicon is now available, showcasing the intense combat, intricate customization, and dystopian settings that have become synonymous with the mech-battling RPG genre.

Set to release on August 25, Armored Core 6 is the latest offering from FromSoftware, the acclaimed developers behind Elden Ring and the Dark Souls series. Before achieving fame with Dark Souls, FromSoftware gained recognition for their meticulous mech combat series known as Armored Core, the last installment of which was released nearly ten years ago.

Based on this gameplay preview, it is evident that FromSoftware has not lost their touch. The video provides a glimpse of fast-paced mech combat, showcasing the variety of weapons available for different playstyles. Additionally, the preview reveals the game’s implementation of verticality, a staple feature in Armored Core games. This allows for unique attack strategies using bursts of flight and adds depth to the combat experience.

To make it convenient for viewers, we have embedded the full video below, skipping the pre-stream countdown.

The preview also provides a glimpse into the plot of Armored Core 6, teasing the dystopian sci-fi intrigue that serves as the backdrop for the intense mech battles.

In the showcased first mission, players are assigned the task of destroying a rebel fortress by a malevolent megacorporation. Following the classic Armored Core formula, the mission is a self-contained strike, requiring the player to infiltrate, complete the objective, and retreat. However, the destruction of the fortress is a visually stunning spectacle, demonstrating the impressive graphical fidelity of Armored Core 6.

The footage further showcases a second mission set on a snowy mountainside, where the player joins forces with NPC mech pilots. In a third mission, the protagonist skillfully maneuvers through fields of plasma fire to reach an entrenched enemy position.

Lastly, the video presents a thrilling mech duel and a challenging boss encounter. While our own Jake Tucker faced difficulties during the boss battle in his hands-on experience with the game, he commended Armored Core 6 for its mission design and mech customization. We eagerly await the release of the full version.

Armored Core 6 will be available on August 25 for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
