PlayStation Earbuds Will Support Noise Cancellation, USB Adapter

PlayStation Earbuds: Technical Details Revealed in FCC Filings

After much speculation, Sony Interactive Entertainment has officially unveiled the highly anticipated PlayStation earbuds. During a showcase event held in May, Sony announced the upcoming release, but left out specific technical details. However, recent FCC filings have shed light on what gamers can expect when the earbuds launch, rumored to be later this year.

Will Bluetooth be Enabled for PlayStation Earbuds on the PS5?

According to reports from MySmartPrice (via NoteBookCheck), the FCC filings reveal that the PlayStation earbuds will feature active noise cancellation and a USB transceiver. This USB transceiver is believed to make the earbuds compatible with the PS5.

In contrast, while the PS5 has Bluetooth capabilities, it does not support Bluetooth audio. Both Sony and Microsoft have opted out of Bluetooth audio for their current-generation consoles due to concerns about bandwidth and latency issues.

Interestingly, the PlayStation earbuds, designed for use with both the PS5 and PC, will indeed include Bluetooth support. This has led fans to hope that Sony will eventually unlock Bluetooth audio functionality on the PS5.

Described by Sony as their “first official wireless earbuds offering lossless audio on PS5 and PC,” more detailed information about the earbuds is set to be revealed in the upcoming months. The official release of the earbuds is expected to coincide with the launch of Project Q, a PlayStation handheld device, in the fall of 2023. As of now, the specific release date for Project Q is still unknown.
