GTA 5 AI Mod Allows Players To Speak To NPCs

AI Mod Allows NPCs to Engage in Conversations in Grand Theft Auto V

A modder known as Bloc has developed a groundbreaking mod for Grand Theft Auto V, introducing AI-driven conversations between NPCs and players. This latest creation, called the Sentient Streets mod, utilizes over 30 AI models to add a narrative layer to the game. Players can now engage in open-ended conversations with a variety of characters, including eccentric cult members, cunning police officers, and unsuspecting civilians. Watch the video below to see these new functionalities in action:

In the demo scenario showcased in the video, Bloc takes on the role of a police officer and must choose a partner officer. This selection is made through interactive AI-powered mechanics, where players can ask questions and interact with the NPCs. The officers’ responses are generated based on the AI interpretation of the inquiries, resulting in interactions that reflect distinct personalities, ranging from friendly to tough or even flirty. The mod utilizes the Inworld AI character engine and text-to-speech software from ElevenLabs to create realistic NPC voices.

This AI mod by Bloc is a testament to the growing trend in the gaming industry for more immersive and dynamic player-NPC exchanges. Nvidia has also recently introduced Nvidia ACE, a development tool that empowers game developers to infuse their NPCs with intelligent natural language capabilities.

It’s worth noting that generative AI technology has gained significant traction in the video game industry as of late. In April, World of Warcraft Classic became the first Blizzard MMORPG to feature full NPC voice acting, thanks to this tech. This trend showcases the industry’s commitment to pushing the boundaries of player-NPC interactions.

As for the future of the Grand Theft Auto franchise, fans can expect the highly anticipated Grand Theft Auto 6 to potentially release as soon as 2024.
