Baldur’s Gate 3: How to Pass the Soft-Step Trial

Once you’ve made it to Moonrise Towers in Baldur’s Gate 3, you’ll face several trials in your search for a certain Relic. Among these trials is the Soft-Step Trial, which tests your stealth skills. In this article, we’ll provide a walkthrough on how to successfully pass this trial.

Entering the Soft-Step Trial

The Soft-Step Trial begins with a mysterious maze filled with lurking shadows. To pass this trial, you’ll need to sneak through the maze and avoid the shadows. Making a wrong turn will result in being teleported back to the start as the shadow spots you.

Before attempting any of the trials, it is advised to make a blood sacrifice at the Sacrificial Bowl. This can be done by one of your party members, preferably the one who made the sacrifice. Additionally, casting Pass Without Trace on your party, especially Shadowheart, is recommended to increase your chances of remaining undetected by the shadows.

Choosing the Right Pathway

After several attempts, the recommended pathway involves only using Shadowheart and sneaking through the second Archway. Wait for the shadow to pass by and sneak in the opposite direction. Head towards the right wall and locate a button. Press it to open the wall ahead.

Be cautious as you enter the newly opened area, as there is a second shadow present. Utilize Pass Without Trace to improve your stealth. Remain hidden and continue moving forward until you reach the end of the trial. Climb the stairs and unlock the gate. It’s important to always carry a few lockpicks with you to ensure you can unlock any gates or chests you come across. Finally, collect the Umbral Gem, which is the prize of the Soft-Step Trial. Press the button that appears to teleport back to the start.

Completing the Soft-Step Trial is just one step in your journey through Baldur’s Gate 3. The trials will become progressively more challenging, so be prepared for the Faith-Leap Trial and other obstacles that lie ahead.
