Zynga Announces New Game of Thrones Puzzle RPG Set for Release in 2024

Zynga, the popular game development company, has recently revealed their plans to release Game of Thrones: Legends, an exciting puzzle-based RPG based on the highly acclaimed franchise. Set to be launched in 2024, this new game will immerse players in the battle for supremacy in the fantasy world of Westeros.

Game of Thrones, known for its compelling characters and epic storylines, has become one of the most successful television series of the 21st century. Over the years, the franchise has inspired numerous game adaptations, including several mobile titles. In addition, a well-received prequel series called House of the Dragon was recently released. With several other spin-offs in the works, such as a sequel series featuring the beloved Jon Snow, HBO is showing no signs of slowing down with the Game of Thrones universe.

In Game of Thrones: Legends, players will take on the role of a Westerosi leader and must assemble a team of champions from both the original Game of Thrones series and House of the Dragon. Their mission is to conquer the Iron Throne and establish control over the realm.

Zynga’s executive vice president of mobile games, Yaron Leyvand, expressed his excitement about the upcoming game, stating, “We’re thrilled to create an RPG puzzle experience that combines the mechanics of skilled play with champion management, all set in the magnificent world, characters, and lore of Game of Thrones. Game of Thrones: Legends will bring to life your favorite Westeros characters, events, and locations, providing an immersive strategy experience that players and fans around the world can enjoy.”

You Win or You Die

While this isn’t Zynga’s first venture into the world of Westeros (they previously launched Game of Thrones Slots Casino in 2019), it is their first new game in the Game of Thrones universe since Game of Thrones Beyond the Wall in 2020. Partnering with established intellectual properties gives game developers a significant advantage by tapping into a pre-existing fanbase. Additionally, mobile gaming offers a more accessible platform compared to consoles or PCs, resulting in a potentially higher return on investment.

It’s worth noting that Game of Thrones faced criticism for its controversial final season in 2019, which dampened the enthusiasm of some fans. However, the success of House of the Dragon has revitalized interest in the franchise, bringing it back into the spotlight. Zynga undoubtedly hopes to capitalize on this renewed excitement and engagement.

Last week, Zynga introduced their first web3 game, Sugartown.
