No, Cyberpunk 2077 didn’t “remove” the Elon Musk NPC because he wasn’t even in the game to begin with

A developer from CD Projekt Red has debunked the rumor about an NPC in Cyberpunk 2077 based on Elon Musk. In response to a viral tweet claiming that the Elon Musk cameo was recently removed from the Corpo opening in the game, senior quest designer Patrick Mills expressed his disbelief. He questioned, “who came up with this nonsense?”.

Mills further clarified, “That wasn’t Elon Musk, it looks nothing like him. Who came up with this nonsense?”. Later, he amusingly mentioned that he couldn’t see the replies to his tweet because he had muted Elon Musk’s name. Mills jokingly stated, “No big loss, I’m sure, but behave in there, kids. (Throw a wild party, chooms).”

When confronted with a story about Musk storming into the studio and demanding a role while brandishing a centuries-old firearm, Mills denied having any knowledge of it. He stated, “I wasn’t there, I don’t know. But even if that’s true, that doesn’t mean this random Japanese guy is supposed to be him.”

Cyberpunk 2077’s highly-anticipated paid expansion is on the horizon. In the meantime, the game has already received its free 2.0 update. This update aims to address some of the criticisms the game faced since its controversial launch in late 2020. It introduces redesigned skill trees and perks, revamped cyberware, a new capacity system, vehicle combat and car chases, combat AI improvements, and a new police system. Additionally, the update brings changes to loot, items, and crafting, as well as UI and UX improvements, and a new selection of radio stations.
