Cyberpunk 2077 Side Mission Guide: Fortunate Son Walkthrough

The storyline in Cyberpunk 2077 is captivating, but it doesn’t fully capture the depth and complexity of Night City. Thankfully, the side missions provide a colorful and elaborate experience that brings the city to life. One such mission, called Fortunate Son, adds vibrancy to both the game and Night City. Here’s a guide on how to complete the Fortunate Son mission in Cyberpunk 2077.

Requirements: Queen of the Highway Mission

To undertake the Fortunate Son mission, you must first complete the Queen of the Highway side mission. These quests become available when you reach the Badlands region. Once you’ve finished Queen of the Highway, you’re ready to tackle Fortunate Son.

Finding the Nomad Camp

Head to the northwest side of the Badlands map, as shown in the image below. You’ll come across a Nomad camp where you’ll find two NPCs named Bob and Emily in one of the tents. If you chose the Nomad lifepath, you may have exclusive dialogue options here.

Assisting Bob and Emily

Bob will inform you that their group member, Jake, is severely wounded. Furthermore, another member named Dakota has arranged a meeting for you in Night City. Accept the mission to help Bob and Emily, then head to Little China in Night City.

Confrontation in Little China

In Little China, you’ll be approached by a hospital employee who will give you the kidney implant. As he flees, prepare for a fight against the NCPD. It is recommended to use a suitable build to defeat them. Once you’ve dealt with the NCPD, locate the hospital employee and interact with him. If your intelligence spec is high enough, you’ll discover that the kidney implant contains a virus. He’ll provide a replacement shard. You’ll then have various choices regarding how to deal with him.

Choosing a Path

When you learn about the employee’s betrayal, you’ll be presented with two distinct options. You can either “deal” with him or choose to let him go. Spare his life, and you’ll learn about the virus. However, if you kill him and return to the camp to give Jake the implant, he will die. Gathering this information is advisable.

Rewards for Completion

Once you’ve returned to the camp, wait for 8 in-game hours. Bob will instruct you to check on Jake’s fate at the camp. Regardless of whether he lives or dies, you’ll receive the same amount of XP. However, if Jake survives, he will appear in the All Along the Watchtower ending.
