A game developer from Sucker Punch Productions has decided to create their own unique dinosaur fighting game, but with a twist – these dinosaurs battle using swords instead of fists.
Jean Nguyen, the senior gameplay animator at Sucker Punch, recently took to Twitter to provide an update on his personal game project called Dino-Sword.
Nguyen has been diligently working on this game for some time now and has been regularly sharing progress updates with his followers. The most recent update includes a thrilling one-minute clip featuring two dinosaurs engaged in combat in a forest, wielding enormous swords in their mouths. You can watch the clip below:
The video showcases the dinosaurs executing impressive moves such as dodge rolls, similar to the gameplay mechanics seen in the popular Soulslike games. They also display the ability to perform agile jumps and spinning slashes. Nguyen mentioned that he has incorporated a powerful two-hit combo, with plans to include additional moves in the future.
While he acknowledges that these are still “rough animations” and that he purchased the forest biome foliage for his project, it is truly remarkable what Nguyen has achieved so far.
If you’re interested in supporting Nguyen’s work, you can visit his Patreon page. There, he offers exclusive insights and regular updates on Dino-Sword. He shares videos demonstrating new fighting moves and mechanics he has implemented, and also maintains a YouTube channel featuring his dinosaur animations and gameplay updates.
Up to this point, Nguyen has introduced a weapon switch ability, a lock-on feature for one-on-one battles, a dodge roll and parry system, and the capability for enemies to chase after the player. He has expressed his desire to incorporate finishing moves in the future, and we eagerly await the further development of the game.
Unfortunately, Dino-Sword is currently a personal project for Nguyen and does not appear to be slated for public release at this time.
