Pokémon Go Wooper Community Day guide

Pokémon Go enthusiasts, mark your calendars! The highly anticipated Wooper Community Day event is happening on November 5th from 2-5 p.m. in your local time zone. Get ready to catch a multitude of Johtoan Wooper and Paldean Wooper, with an increased chance of finding shiny versions. Plus, there are exciting bonuses and perks you won’t want to miss. Let’s dive into the details.

How to Catch a Shiny Wooper

According to previous research by The Silph Road (via Wayback Machine), the shiny rates on Community Days are approximately 1 in 24. So, if you stay active throughout the three-hour window, you’re likely to encounter several shiny Pokémon, including Wooper. To maximize your chances, use Incense to lure Wooper and quickly check each one for shininess. Keep in mind that Wooper you’ve already inspected will face your player’s direction, making it easier to track your progress.

Community Day Move for Wooper’s Evolution

By evolving Wooper into Quagsire between 2 p.m. and 10 p.m. in your local time zone, your Quagsire will learn the charged move Aqua Tail. On the other hand, evolving Paldean Wooper into Clodsire grants it the charged move Megahorn. If you miss out on evolving during this time frame, don’t worry. There will likely be a Community Day weekend event in December where you can still obtain Aqua Tail and Megahorn through evolution. Alternatively, you can use an Elite TM for instant access to the move.

Quagsire and Clodsire in the Meta

While Quagsire and Clodsire may not be formidable forces in the PvE raid meta, they can hold their own in the Great League, especially if you’re into PvP battles. For the Great League, consider using Mud Shot, Mud Bomb, and Stone Edge for Quagsire, or Poison Sting, Earthquake, and Sludge Bomb for Clodsire. These muddy boys will prove their worth in battle.

Making the Most of Wooper Community Day

Let’s take a look at the fantastic bonuses that will be active during Wooper Community Day:

  • 1⁄4 hatch distance for eggs placed into Incubators during the event
  • Doubled candy for catching Pokémon
  • Doubled chance for trainers over level 31 to get XL candy from catching Pokémon
  • Incense lasts three hours
  • Lure Modules lasts three hours
  • Wooper can do special photobombs when taking snapshots
  • One additional special trade
  • Stardust cost halved for trading

With these bonuses in mind, make sure to optimize your gameplay by placing your eggs into Incubators, using Incense, and capturing as many powerful Wooper as possible. If you happen to have access to Mega Evolutions like Swampert, Steelix, or Primal Groudon, you’ll earn extra Wooper Candy for both Johtoan and Paldean Wooper due to their ground-type bonus. However, if you don’t have these Mega Evolutions, water-type Mega Evolutions such as Slowbro, Blastoise, or Gyarados will suffice for regular Johtoan Wooper, while poison-type Mega Evolutions like Gengar, Beedrill, or Venusaur can be used for Paldean Wooper. Remember, both types of Wooper share the same candy, so you needn’t worry too much about which Mega Evolution to choose.

During Community Day, there will also be PokéStop Showcases featuring the highlighted Pokémon. Be sure to showcase your best catches before the event concludes at 5 p.m. local time. However, please be aware that there has been a bug causing Squirtle to appear instead of Wooper during the Community Day events. Despite this, Niantic still has special four-star raids scheduled from 5-10 p.m., where defeating the Wooper raid will cause them to spawn within a 300-meter radius around the gym for 30 minutes. Note that these raids cannot be done remotely. If you haven’t found the desired Wooper during the usual 2-5 p.m. spawn increase, raiding presents an additional opportunity to encounter one.
