The Golden Joystick Awards 2023: All the Winners Announced

The Golden Joystick Awards for 2023 have come to a close, with the 41st annual awards being hosted at the Royal Lancaster Hotel in London, UK. A total of 23 categories were recognized, celebrating the best in the gaming industry.

Baldur’s Gate 3 by Larian Studios has emerged as the big winner, taking home a total of six awards, including the prestigious Ultimate Game of the Year Award. The highly acclaimed role-playing game managed to surpass 19 competitors, such as Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom to secure the top prize.

The awards for Baldur’s Gate 3 also included Best Storytelling, Best Visual Design, Best Game Community, Best Supporting Performer, and PC Game of the Year. Additionally, Larian Studios was recognized as Studio of the Year for their work on the game.

In other categories, No Man’s Sky, a game first released in 2016, won the Still Playing award, while Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty was honored with the Best Game Expansion award and Best Game Trailer award.

Sea of Stars was named Best Indie Game, Horizon Call of the Mountain received the award for Best VR Game, and PlayStation’s PSVR 2 was recognized as the Best Gaming Hardware. The Final Fantasy series also took home multiple awards this year.

NetherRealm Studio’s Mortal Kombat 1 was named the Best Multiplayer Game, while Riot Games’ Valorant received the Streamers’ Choice Award. Geometric Interactive’s debut game, Cocoon, received the Breakthrough Award, and Remedy Entertainment’s Alan Wake 2 was honored with the Critics’ Choice Award.

Finally, the award for Nintendo Game of the Year went to The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, while PlayStation Game of the Year was given to Resident Evil 4, and Xbox Game of the Year was awarded to Starfield.
