Assassin’s Creed Fullscreen Ads Were an ‘Error,’ Claims Ubisoft

Technical Error: Assassin’s Creed Full-Screen Ads

Recently, Ubisoft has stated that the presence of full-screen ads in some older Assassin’s Creed games was a technical error. Players had expressed concerns when they encountered disruptive ads promoting the newly released AC Mirage during their gameplay of AC Odyssey.

The ad was initially reported by Reddit user triddell24, who came across it on the Xbox. PS5 players also confirmed seeing the pop-up. While not all players were affected, a significant number experienced the disruption.

Upon contacting Ubisoft, spokesperson Fabien Darrigues acknowledged the issue, stating, “We have been made aware that some players encountered pop-up ads while playing certain Assassin’s Creed titles yesterday. This was the result of a technical error that we addressed as soon as we learned of the issue.” Ubisoft, however, did not provide further details regarding the nature of the issue or why it specifically impacted an older Assassin’s Creed game. It is worth noting that the ads were only observed on consoles, not on PC.

In-game ads are not a new concept, but this particular instance was considered especially obnoxious, leading to understandable concerns among players. The Verge also reported similar grievances from Xbox players, who had experienced full-screen pop-up ads for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III. It is hoped that this does not become a recurring trend.
