Dark Souls 2’s PS3 and Xbox 360 servers are going offline permanently next year

Dark Souls 2 Servers for PS3 and Xbox 360 to be Shutdown in 2024

Dark Souls 2’s PS3 and Xbox 360 versions will have their servers taken permanently offline next year, the official Dark Souls Twitter account confirmed.

The servers for Dark Souls 2 on PS3 and Xbox 360 will be shutdown on March 31, 2024, as stated by the official Dark Souls Twitter account. Players on these platforms will receive an in-game message warning about the server shutdown. However, the game can still be played fully offline at this point.

In contrast, servers for the PC version of the game, as well as for the PS4 and Xbox One’s Dark Souls 2: Scholar of the First Sin, will remain online for players to continue enjoying co-op, PvP, and other online elements such as covenant interactions and leaving messages for others. Furthermore, this version of the game is backward compatible on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S consoles.

It’s a disappointing news for fans of Dark Souls 2 on the older platforms, especially for those who prefer the original game before the changes introduced in the Scholar of the First Sin version.

Dark Souls 2 is often considered the black sheep of the Souls trilogy due to its relatively linear and uninteresting level design and bland art direction compared to other games in the series. However, it boasts the most fun and interesting online environment of the three games, with a thriving PvP scene even a decade after its initial release.
