Into The Light? – PlayerAuctions Blog

Vaulted Content and Narrative

Bungie recently announced that the next expansion for Destiny 2, The Final Shape, has been delayed until early June 2024. This news has left players curious about the new content that will be introduced after the conclusion of Season of the Wish. The uncertainty about Destiny 2’s future has increased following the significant employee layoffs at Bungie and the revelation of their new project, Marathon, which has attracted many former Destiny 2 staff.

However, in a video released by Destiny 2’s current director, Joe Blackburn, it was revealed that Bungie has a plan to introduce new players to the game’s story and gameplay. This is in response to much of the narrative being rendered unplayable due to Bungie’s decision to vault all old content.

Reprising Seasonal and Raid Weapons

One of the challenges for new players entering the world of Destiny 2 is the inability to access vaulted storylines and old seasonal content. This makes it difficult for them to keep up with the game’s overarching narrative and familiarize themselves with important characters. To address this issue, Bungie introduced the New Light update, which offers a tutorial experience similar to the beginning of Destiny 1. Despite the solid gameplay experience, new players still struggle with the narrative transition from New Light to the current seasonal story.

Additionally, the time gating of seasonal loot has presented another hurdle for new players. With the introduction of the crafting system in The Witch Queen expansion, every weapon found in the seasonal loot table became craftable. This has resulted in some weapons being highly sought after by players for their craftable god rolls. To address this issue, Bungie plans to reward players with crafting patterns of old seasonal weapons in the upcoming activity called Into The Light. This will allow new players to catch up with veterans in the endgame by crafting the best weapons in the game.

Preparation For The Final Shape

Joe Blackburn has emphasized that the Into The Light update is designed to cater not only to veteran players but also to newcomers who are looking to prepare for The Final Shape. The Final Shape is set to be the most expansive raid in Destiny 2, featuring a new enemy type and a new miniboss race called the Subjugators. This expansion marks the concluding chapter of the Light and Dark saga of Destiny, and Bungie is making significant preparations to ensure that it leaves a lasting impression.

By focusing on improving the new player experience, Bungie aims to provide the means for players to keep up in terms of gear. With the upcoming conclusion of the Season of the Wish, players are eager to learn more about what the Into The Light update will bring to the game.
