How to Turn Your Raft in Raft

There are currently two main methods for turning your raft in Raft:

  • Using a Steering Wheel
  • Bumping into structures like islands or Vacated Rafts

Past methods such as using sideway Engines or a sail have been found to be ineffective in recent testing, leaving only the two methods listed above as viable options.

1. Turn Your Raft using a Steering Wheel

The Steering Wheel serves as a crucial navigational tool, allowing players to effortlessly rotate their raft. To obtain the blueprint for the Steering Wheel, players must find it in the captain’s room on the second-story island Vasagatan.

Upon obtaining the blueprint, players can research it to unlock the recipe for the Steering Wheel, requiring items such as Scrap, Metal Ingot, Rope, and a Bolt. Once crafted, the Steering Wheel can be placed on the raft and allows for easy rotation by utilizing the “R” key and mouse movement.

Players often find it beneficial to position the Steering Wheel near the Receiver and Streamer to ensure visibility of the wind direction, optimizing trash collection and island navigation.

2. Turn Your Raft by Bumping It into Structures

If the resources for a Steering Wheel are not yet available, or if the player is in the initial stages of gameplay, an alternative method involves intentionally bumping the raft into small islands or Vacated Rafts to achieve the desired rotation. This can be complemented by using a Paddle and a Sail to control the direction of the collision.

In cases where ocean trash is not being efficiently collected due to the direction of the raft, players can temporarily resolve the issue by repositioning Collection Nets to align with the wind.
