Samsung is getting serious about gaming peripherals, starting with this controller

Samsung has announced a new officially licensed wireless controller called the Replay controller, designed for use with the Samsung Gaming Hub. This move suggests that Samsung is making a serious push into the gaming market.

The design of the Replay controller will immediately draw comparisons to the Xbox Wireless Controller, with its familiar layout and shape. However, the controller comes in an alluring Midnight Blue color scheme and also doubles as a regular TV remote, setting it apart from other gamepads.

Aside from the standard inputs found on a gamepad, the Replay controller also features volume control buttons on its d-pad, a TV power button, and two programmable back buttons.

Specifically designed for the Samsung Gaming Hub, the controller is intended for use with a range of cloud streaming apps like Xbox Cloud Gaming, Amazon Luna, and Nvidia GeForce Now, allowing users to stream games over the internet without the need for a download.

With Bluetooth wireless connectivity, the controller is compatible with Samsung smart TVs, monitors, and the Samsung The Freestyle 2nd Gen projector. While official compatibility with mobile phones has not been confirmed, it is likely to work with some devices in this category as well.

One of the most notable aspects of the Replay controller is that it is being manufactured by PDP, a well-respected gaming peripheral company known for producing high-quality controllers at affordable prices. This suggests that the Replay controller will likely be a solid product, despite the niche market for this accessory.

In addition to the Replay controller, Samsung will be unveiling a new ‘Designed for Samsung Gaming Hub’ program at CES 2024. This program will involve collaborations with various accessory manufacturers to create a range of Samsung Gaming Hub compatible products. These products will be designated with a prominent ‘Designed for Samsung Gaming Hub’ label, indicating that they have been tested for compatibility, quality, performance, safety, and security on Samsung devices.
